Comment on How Your Can Do Attitude Could Be Setting You Up To Fail by Malcolm Rendle

Another though provoking piece by Christine highlighting a legacy of the 1990's when a lot of this attitude first came to the surface. I agree whole heartedly with Christine's observations, however would like to add another dimension. So often management confuse a "Can Do Attitude" with "Tow the Line " Attitude. Too many bosses regard the worker who never questions what they are being asked to do, or never makes a fuss as having a "Can do Attitude", is it not healthier to be open to constructive questioning and debate? Too often those who question a decision, who voice concerns, are seen as "obstructive" and "having a bad attitude". In reality though is this a sign of insecure management?
It is great to have a "Can do Attitude" as long as it is not as a result of blindly going along with things irrespective of the consequences, just to look good to the boss, and not gain a reputation as a "boat rocker".

Great builds on the second point, Hilary. In coach training we get told to forget WHY. But actually without it, purpose runs the risk of being unclear.

And it's nice to be back writing. There's more coming here too, so watch this space!
